Takin' It To the Streets

1976 marked a turning point for this great Bay Area group, which up until this time had been led by guitarist Tom Johnston.  Beginning with the album Takin' It to the Streets, keyboardist Michael McDonald took over as lead singer of the group and he began to introduce R&B influences into the group's music.

Stand Tall

Burton Cummings

At #99, the one and only solo hit for the former lead singer on all the great Guess Who Songs such as "American Woman", "Share The Land", "Undun" and so many others.

#98:

With Your Love

Jefferson Starship

The group responsible for the classics "White Rabbit" and "Somebody To Love" in the psychedelic era had transformed, but millions of people liked the new version as well, and one of Jefferson Starship's early hits comes in at #98.

Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)

Bee Gees

Another of the great '60s acts, they too began to transform in 1975.  We didn't know it back in 1976, but they would become one of the most dominant recording acts in music history.

Yvonne Elliman

Written for her by the Bee Gees, Hawai'i-born Yvonne Elliman with her first big hit.

Barry Manilow

He had scored his first hit as well the year before with "Mandy", and in 1976, Manilow continued his magic.

Strange Magic

Electric Light Orchestra

Speaking of magic, Jeff Lynne & company took their Beatle-influenced sound to great heights in the '70s and '80s.

ABBA

Giving us some of the most melodic music our ears have ever heard, this supergroup became the top export out of Sweden next to Volvo.
